We're well on our way to having a July event focusing on Green Jobs. Evan presented on his research into this topic as it applies to Westchester. His presentation was a good springboard to discussion about what we plan to do in July. Ann van Buren and Rachel Estroff from Westchester for Change joined us and provided excellent insights and ideas based on their deep experience in organizing events with their group. We also took a break to listen to President Obama's address which provided us with further motivation and focus to take action quickly around this important topic.
We came up with two proposals for July:
1) Organizing a Green Jobs Forum/Conversation featuring panelists and experts from the public and private sector. Slated for the third week in July.
2) Creating a few 'services' that could help Westchester residents live greener lives and pursue greener careers - ideas included: 1) a GreenPages directory modeled after the YellowPages that would list green merchants and green jobs, 2) a service that would help match green employers with green government support and funding programs, and 3) an online map service that would instantly show where green jobs are in the county, where green recovery money is being spent, and the amount of green revenue being created by these jobs. No target date was given for these. These could be action items that come out of the forum.
NEXT MEETING: Our next meeting is next Tuesday, June 22 at 7 pm. We will be jointly meeting with Westchester for Change.
PLEASE RSVP HERE: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/gp8t47
LOCATION: Location will depend on the size of the group responding.
As you heard in the President's address tonight, we must move away from our dependence of fossil fuels. Every move we make towards a Greener Westchester is a step in the right direction.
I look forward to working with you all on this important project.
See you next week,
Kevin
